its getting more and more fun here everyday, preaching is so great and the kids are great and the sun is out so im happy! 32 degrees 2moro!

chapter 6????????
ummm so.... ive been preaching everyday which is fun, we get nearly 1000 kids every week which is amazing and im starting to build relationships with the kids so every time I go out there its more fun than the time before. Today I had to tell a story with pictures and preach, I was sooooo scared all that drama stuff is so hard and i'm really trying to be like excited and dramatic and enthusiastic all the time its killing me!!!
So Rachel blew me out (only joking!!) bt I got my choccys so THANKYOU!!! and the tea, WOW!! i never thought that id miss tea so much!
Visiting in the bronx is ........interesting....i've seen a lot of things I didnt want to see bt honestly the most disturbing thing to me is how similar everything is to London, its just not a whole heap different which scares me cos it means we're right on their tail and we need to do something about it! Its kina nuts cos you go from one house where they are living in cockroaches in rubbish to another where the dad is a crack dealer and the house looks like the hamptons in the blocks, then to a next house where the dad is watching porn whilst the kids are running around, followed by the next house where the mum is smoking weed and beating the kid and after 4 visits you just wanna scream bt.....you have another 200 to do before you can go home so by the end of the afternoon you just wanna sit on top of a mountain somewhere by yourself. But you cant cos you've got to preach in kids church, drop everyone home, then prepare the lesson for the next day...and start again. Although its tiring i can honestly say that I'm having a great time and God is working in the lives of the children and the parents.
on a lighter note! the weather is amazing, last week it was so cold I was practically an ice block for the week and we had rain storms and snow and it was horrible, then this week its almost back to t-shirt weather, crayzeeeeeeeeeee!
on monday I'm going to Washington DC for the day i'm having tea with Georgie so if you have any questions about ...i dunno... the Iraq war or anything, e-mail them to me and I'll ask him!
Today I wrote an essay and prepared for an exam are they takin the mick? exams bwoy!
I'm collecting a lot of ideas so be prepared for my input at future meetings!
I'm missing home so much, cant wait to come home.

So...Mum and Helen ur blue....both emotional wrecks!
Mum did u check out the ugs? they're well comfortable, they're sheepskin and kina mould to your foot.
Anyway, Im gonna be working in the projects in the bronx, doing about 7 sites each have between 60 and 250 kids, they all get visited every week between 5 of us, crazy! we basically just set up in the grass area in the middle of estates and lo and behold you have hundreds of kids and their parents every week. Imagine going down to Peckham or the Aylesbury, its exactly the same, looks the same and everything. Im not too sure bout these 12 hour days bt its fun!
Rachel: thats kool, whatever u wanna do! any chocolate is good- minstrels/toblerone!
going visiting today so that should be fun.

chapter 3
well well................
thought id beta write today as i start real work on tues and mite not have so much time. Went to brooklyn tabernacle today, the building is amazing and the choir was phenomenal! They had a guest speaker who founded a ministry for people who have been abused. At the end they asked people to come to the front who needed to face what had happened to them and give it to God I was honestly scared at the amount of people who went forward and wept for ages.
Helen...so ur blue...emotional wreck! thats wot we've nicknamed the blues! We have a dunkin donuts near us that do good hot chocolate I meant the powdered kind so i can have it at 'home'. Im just not impressed with anything they have here foodwise, the brands are dodgy from bread to jelly to tea to chocolate....us brits know how to eat!
wot else have i been up 2?..........having snowfights...its seriously cold, it hasnt snowed for a couple of days now but not a flake has melted its wierd...........and cold!
Church is so great, if they had 5 services a day id probably go to all of them its amazing! we sing a lot of israel haughton and hillsongs. im not so sure about the 'hug somebody and tell them you love them part!' im a bit scared of that!
I bought some ugs! wahey! look at me all stepping out my comfort zone! actually, mum u wud like them, check it out on the net and tell me if u want a pair, i'll get u some, they're sheepskin boots (australian).
overly missing home cooking, home bed, home showers, just home in general, even church in a funny kind of way! ish!
so..........anyway...........................
next time i write i'll have been put in a group and i'll know more of wot i am doing.
(oh yeah joy.. u need to check out dunkin donuts as research, they do hot white chocolate and bagels and of course loads of donuts, for about 75 c each and .........icecream cake, its like icecream and cake mixed together covered in icing...wow!) anyway im doing lots of research for you!

chapter 2
They say 'changes like the british weather' but maybe it shud be NY weather, yesterday was sunny t-shirt weather people were bbqing and all sorts, today we're in 1/2 inch of snow...crazy!
yesterday we did a personality quiz which was quite eerie.........................I came out green and when it outlined the characteristics i was quite honestly scared i was like- its me!
it included stuff like...
creates a system for everything
does not show emotion
needs time alone
gets bored easily
is intellectual (oh yes!)
likes debates
honestly scary...check it out its called the true colous test.
Its been quite fun going round putting all the u's back in saviour and colour, im slowly but surely cleaning up this backward town! However everyday im gonna have to say the american pledge so that is realllllllllllly hurting me, i kina mouth it and pretend like im not saying it.
what else have i been up 2? we had a formal dinner yesterday for the launch of the new semester which was fun, staff mtg this morning for ...3 and 1/2 hours which was..fun! Pastor Bill is a good speaker so it was cool really.
Anyway, they have visitors over here for like $25 a night, so Matthew and Helen get packing, you wud love it. Dad you would overly love it, you and Bill Wilson have the same heart.
so.....im sharing with 11 other girls which is stretching me out my comfort zone, i have to like..talk to people and that!
All in all its cool.
Helen: I like christian country music like the gaithers thats wot i meant!

the story so far..................
Well... Brooklyn is kool, kina like the back streets of Peckham but it just goes on much longer!
Went to times square /manhattan on Saturday which was fun... broadway's similar to the west end just a bit bigger and brighter. trains are a joke tho, they have a lot to learn from the brits when it comes to transport, i was kina scared to get on the train, it looks like its gonna fall apart, plus the system is so complicated even the new yorkers didnt know how to get anywhere!
Went to church on Sunday which was good, church is very lively, very professional in media and music, they had a good mix of music/testimony/video clips/ notices and of course the sermon which was short and to the point accompanied by a power point presentation including the scriptures. in short it was really good!
Dunkin Donuts- what a marvellous idea! roasted pecan icecream- ummmmmmmmmmmmm- only $2 ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2day, i'm goin back to downtown brooklyn which i love, good variety of shops, its kina mad tho cos its like the movies obviously the poor part of town but there are loads of cars with the massive rims driving around- the most obvious drug dealers! meanwhile the police are buying dog food in the shops with their guns in their holster and im thinkin, i'm sure i could grab that if i timed it right....very concerning! Especially as they tell me the bloods are in the area at the moment and the number of fatal shootings have been very high recently with an increase of gang problems.
so.....real work starts tomorrow.........
